Whiskey-WAR. 1861



 

Mayor in 1861  when the war started  Civil War  Was   WILLIAM  WILLARD    WILLIAM WILLARD ON FIRST DAY HE RALLIED Peorians downtown   Young men eager to sign up

 

Went out to Birkett Hollow  west gate of Glen Oak Park and built Camp LYON  named after a colonel that was killed very early in the war…Nathaniel Lyon   Initial training of 7,500  emn there before they went to more advanced camps.

562 Men from Peoria County were killed in that war defending the Union….How many men from Peoria County fought for the Confederacy   How many of them died?
