NORMAN V. KELLY
In the September issue of
Adventure Sports Outdoors I told you about the restoration of an old fire truck
that the Wheels O’ Time Museum had out there in Dunlap. Photographer Bruce
Brown took some marvelous pictures of that old vehicle, circa 1931 or
1932. He thought it would be a good idea
to follow the reconstruction of that fire truck so we went back out to take a
look on November 12, 2014. Wow…what a
change.
There is an all volunteer
crew out there working diligently to put old Arens Fox Fire Truck Number One
back in service. It may never put out
another fire but it will remind the visitors of Wheels O’ Time Museum of an era
here in Peoria when a fire downtown brought hundreds of spectators to watch the
brave firemen and their new, shiny equipment work their magic. We had some
catastrophic fires in downtown Peoria
and this old ‘Fox’ was there during most of them. Bruce has put the names of the men on duty
refurbishing this old vehicle and as time goes on Bruce and I will keep you up
to date as work continues. Then we will
rejoice on the day they fire up old number one once again and put her back on
display.
