PEORIA HIGH SCHOOL

                                        PEORIA  HIGH  SCHOOL

                                                   NORMAN   V.   KELLY

1856-1857                   The first principal was named this year for Peoria High School…it opened and was located on the Second Floor of the building called  the Female Academy, located at Jefferson and Jackson Streets.

Peoria High was located  Fourth and Fischer Streets

(Time of the beginning of the Civil War,) 1860-1861

During 1885 the school was located at Monroe and

Fayette Streets.

On January 26, 1917 the school was opened and dedicated

at the current North Street Address.

The 1956 Graduating Class of Peoria High was called ‘The Centennial Class.’  Indicating that the school was 100 years old…True but the current building was opened in 1917.

TRUTH:    Springfield High School  opened in 1857

And the current building of that high school was opened in 1916.  They had a history of moving around just like Peoria High.

So is the word continuous the key word…well so is it with the other “Oldest Schools.”
